Webinar: Hour of Code
On November 19, I went to a went to a live webinar on hour of code. I had heard about hour of code in my technologies of instruction class, so I had some background knowledge. Hour of code is a global movement where individuals can learn and create video games. It teaches individuals how computer programming works, and how characters can move doing an activity. The game we were shown was based on Minecraft. We had to use programming chips/cards that had descriptions on what each did, and move the character to perform tasks. As a teacher, involving students in this kind of global movement encourages technology and exploration of the mind. It allows students to think creatively, solve problems, and learn the basics of computer science. At the end of the webinar, we were allowed to explore the hour of code site, and experiment with the various computer game tutorials.
Going to webinars would fit 4E because it allows teachers to grow professionally. Webinars inform individuals, and that information can be applied in the classroom. Teachers attended the hour of code webinar, and one teacher in specific, was curious how she could further use the information she learned that day in her classroom. By listening to the topic of a webinar, teachers can expand their knowledge and grow professionally.
