1D: Demonstrating Knowledge of Resources
This component focuses on the knowledge of resources to use in and out of the classroom. This knowledge helps teachers to further develop their own knowledge of teaching. They can expand their knowledge by using these resources to learn more ways to teach, and by enhancing the curriculum. It also focuses on how to apply resources in the classroom to help students engage in learning. Knowledge of available resources provides tools for students so they can use them themselves in order to develop as a learner in school, and out of school.
It is important for teachers to demonstrate this knowledge so they can use a variety of tools to assist their students in the best way possible. By using quality resources, students can learn more by paying attention and using what they learned to better understand the content that is being taught. Teachers need to be aware of these resources so their students can experience this. Teachers also need to know which tools will help the learning of their students; what works for them, what does not. Teachers should know how they can enhance their own knowledge by using things like social media, to gain more knowledge so they can implement it in the class. By going out of their way to find good strategies or creative ideas, teachers can use what they learned to enhance the learning content of their students.
