Aurasma: Augmented Reality
In a classroom, there are many tools that can help engage the learning of the students. Augmented reality is one tool that can be used. Augmented reality is when an individual can take a physical object, scan it, and place a virtual link, image, video, and more to it; it connects the physical world to the virtual world. An example of an augmented reality app is Aurasma. Aurasma is an augmented reality device that allows an individual to attach a video, image, or link to an image. This fits into component 3C because it engages the students. It is interactive, allowing them to use technology to reveal hidden virtual images in a picture. It fits into elements one to three which include: activities and assignments, grouping of students, and instructional materials and resources. Using Aurasma, teachers can have students create their own channel and share information about a topic. The teacher can create group projects in which they work together to put a video together that is linked to an image. It can also be used by the teacher as a resource, to teach the students material in a creative and engaging way.

How it Works:
To access the augmented content, the app Aurasma, needs to be downloaded on a device. Once it is downloaded, you can go to search, and follow the channel, AbigailNCurry's public auras. After following the channel, the student can hover over the image, and the video or quiz will come up on the screen. The images below are the trigger images. The first image is Prezi; I linked this to a tutorial video on how to create a Prezi Presentation. All of the images, except for the last one, are all tutorials to teach students the technology tools they can use. Quizlet is the next trigger image, linking to a video that talks about how to use it and how it can help with studying. Coggle is linked to the video that is displayed by the website, coggle.it, explaining how it works as well. The next image is Do It Tomorrow. This is also linked to a video explaining how to use it. The point in creating my Auras on Aurasma is to inform students of various tools they can use, and how to use them properly. To make sure the students understand which tools help with what, I created my last Aura. The last trigger image is a code to join a quiz on socrative teacher/student. After focusing on the image, the student can type in the code (which is the trigger image), and do the quiz.

Using Aurasma was quite fun; creating images that have links to videos and a quiz is so neat. I enjoyed creating a quiz and linking that to a trigger image, being able to see live results from another technology tool that I learned about. Something I would do differently would be creating my own tutorials and having more Auras of technology tools. Aurasma is a great tool to engage students and learn in a fun way.
This can tie into my educational psychology class. We talk about Piaget and his four stages of cognitive development and how each student learns a different way. Using Aurasma, it can help students who are more sensorimotor, being able to see the video. It will appeal to their sight sense.
