2B: Establishing a Culture for Learning
This component focuses on establishing culture of learning in the classroom. Creating this norm in the classroom, students and teachers can take pride in their work, doing the best they can. This increases long lasting learning, benefiting everyone.
This is important because it takes both the student and teacher to create this culture of learning. This strengthens the relationship between them. By creating this environment, it allows students to participate more, taking in more of the content and setting high goals.

Elements:
- Importance of Content and of Learning
- Expectations for Learning & Achievement
- Student Pride in Work
Examples of Artifacts:
Setting Goals in the beginning:
By creating a survey/document, teachers can set goals with their students, encouraging them to reach them along the way. |
Student Boards:
Displaying students' work is very important; they take pride in what they have worked on. By creating a student board, their work can be presented to the class and families to see. |
Setting Expectations:
Establishing expectations on projects, tests, quizzes and such help create this culture of learning. Making posters/signs to remind students can help them remember what they are expected of. |
