Infographics
An Infographic is a poster that displays information using data, tables, images, and charts. It can be utilized in the classroom by presenting a topic, talking through important events in a story, or presenting data. Using them allows students to have a creative, visual poster that can be a scaffold to their learning. It can reinforce or remind students of the topic that is on the infographic, as well as help them organize their information. Teachers can also use infographics by assigning a project to have students create their own. They would have to research, organize, and create concise information laid out on a poster. Creating infographics is not hard either; there are multiple sites that provide templates to create infographics. An example is www.easel.ly; it is an easy way to create infographics, supplying the user with example templates. It allows users to organize their information into the template, and create their own poster.
This fits into Domain 1, Component d, demonstrating knowledge of resources. An infographic is a tool that can be used by students to both learn from reading, and creating it. An element is, resource for student. The student can use infographics to better understand a topic. They can also create an |
infographic of their own, having them research on the topic. What I did, was researched my topic, then selected a template in which I edited to creatively put my information in. Something I would have done differently would be making it more presentably and more more appealing. I did like how the text would go in the images, so it is not just all plain simple facts.
I can use infographics in my future classroom by hanging various images up around the room to create a positive learning environment. I could also assign students a project to make their own. After they make one, I could hang them around the room and have a gallery walk, allowing students to learn about another topic from their peers. This ties into my Ed Psych Class because we talk about how each student learns differently. Some students may like doing projects to learn, so making an infographic may help them in learning. It allows their imagination to be used while learning about a specific topic.
